This is an absolutely wonderful and really scary set of sculptures in the grounds of the Arenthuis/Groeninge Museum in Bruges representing the four horsemen of the apocalypse.
Individual horsemen are quite scary as are their mounts. I've shown a close up of each horseman below to attempt to convey this. These are followed by longer shots including the mounts.
This post only gives a weak impression of these guys compared to when you see them in the flesh, so to speak. If you're ever in Brugge, do go and see them. Contrast them with the pseudo-marble cherubs in the corner behind them and you'll see what I mean.
I find a lot of modern sculpture pretentious and lacking in interest. Not so these guys. A great use of modern concepts and techniques. And there's great movement and life conveyed by these immobile figures.
